Items to have in your commercial cleaner’s kit

Transportation

Regardless of the job type, you will require a way to carry all of your products to the cleaning site.

A simple caddy can manage this, but if you own a bigger collection of items, a trolley might be a better solution. Not only will it spare your back, but also save you time!

Protective gear

All cleaning substances must be handled with care for your protection. Not only can they affect your skin and eyes, but also have dangerous effects on your overall health if inhaled or ingested.

A pair of strong/heavy duty gloves is, thus, essential, as are a nose and mouth mask and safety goggles for more extreme jobs. Don’t forget to use appropriate clothing and footwear as well, making sure they are high visibility if working in the dark.

The basics

These are extremely useful items to have, forming the essentials of your cleaning equipment for a multitude of tasks:

  • Dustpan
  • Brush and broom
  • Mop and bucket
  • Sponges
  • Scourers
  • Cleaning cloths (including microfibre)
  • Dusters
  • Squeegees
  • Window blind cleaner
  • Bin bags
  • Paper roll
  • Sanitising wipes
  • Floor scrapers

A litter picker and a shovel can also be required for certain situations.

The products

It’s always good to have an all-purpose cleaner at hand. While not as powerful as separate products, it’s versatile and will take care of most simple tasks. For similar reasons, bleach and a good disinfectant are also must-haves.

Washing up liquid; degreaser; oven/cooker cleaner; hand wash; window and glass cleaner; carpet cleaner; hardwood cleaner; floor polish/wax/primer; drain cleaner/unclogger; stainless steel cleaner; silver polish cleaner; air freshener and fabric freshener; descaler; and mould remover are also essential cleaning chemicals in your commercial cleaner’s kit.

It’s important to have washroom-specific products that not only clean but also sanitise, killing germs and bacteria. Ideally, they should be odour neutralising too. Some of them may be used in the kitchen as well, especially those with antibacterial properties.

Always check if the home about to be cleaned houses any pets and/or children. If so, you will need to use bio-products which will be harmless if licked, touched or smelled. These will also be suitable for people with certain allergies.

Safety signs

Any professional cleaner will know to rigorously observe health and safety guidelines, and these include warning others whilst carrying cleaning jobs in public spaces. This is where safety signs for wet floors and slippery surfaces, for instance, come into play.

The machines

For smaller range commercial jobs, a powerful hoover is extremely important, especially if the floors are carpeted. It will also save you a lot of time and keep dust particles from spreading around and settling into newly cleaned surfaces. Steam cleaner machines are also highly useful.

For bigger jobs, especially in commercial environments such as offices, department stores, schools, hospitals and more, a floor polisher/buffer, scrubber dryer and sweeper will also be needed. We have a huge range of commercially capable cleaning machines, designed to help you complete large jobs effectively and efficiently.
