Jayne and Julian Gaze, the founder members of Janitorial Direct, started the business in 1987 as a carpet cleaning company and initially focussed on cleaning domestic carpets.
They diversified to cleaning carpets in commercial organisations like nursing homes, restaurants and hotels thus enabling them to establish domestic cleaning contracts and to employ cleaners who visited customers in small red vans.
- The business went from strength to strength winning commercial contracts with larger companies like Halifax, British Sugar and Victoria Carpets. This side of the business was eventually sold to concentrate on the larger daily office cleaning contracts.
- Rapid expansion followed and a small supplies division was established to support the cleaning contracts. However both Jayne and Julian found the advice and supply of cleaning products to be very poor. Therefore, whilst the contract cleaning business continued to expand, it was eventually sold to Bowdraper.
- The resource and knowledge gained running the cleaning company was used to start and develop a new company called Janitorial Direct. This company was developed with the philosophy of "The right product at the right price at the right time".
Typical customer profile ranged from domestic users to local authorities and the following list continues to grow:
Hospitals, pubs, hotels, nursing homes, schools, nurseries, factories, shops, councils, restaurants, universities, leisure centres, garages, contract cleaners, builders, shops, supermarkets, churches, conference centres, cinemas.
- Janitorial Direct has moved several times and is currently centrally located in the Midlands. They have a large store, administration offices and showroom only a 20-minute drive from the M5 corridor near to large market towns like Bromsgrove, Redditch, Telford, Wolverhampton and Birmingham. There is also a large car park for visitors who wish to collect goods or visit the showroom.

The aim of Janitorial Direct is to continue to develop existing and new markets and to offer Janitorial Supplies and Cleaning Supplies within a mutually beneficial partnership.
- The company ethos remains 'integrity and honesty' and the motto is 'we do what we say we're going to do and if we cannot do it we will say so'. This has been the basis for sustained growth over 17 years through some very economically difficult times resulting in an ever increasing core of regular and very valued customers.
The product range also reflects the diversity of the customer base with over 4,000 products from beer glasses and colour coded chopping boards through to ride-on sweeping machines and industrial carpet cleaning machines.
